Lore: Paths of Enlightenment

Level 1

  • You are aware that the Sabbat commonly practices several alternative way of morality to humanity. And you know these Paths are similar to vampiric religions and ways to exist as a vampire other than acting human.
  • You are aware of the names of the common paths of enlightenment followed by the sabbat (Honorable Accord, Power and the Inner Voice, Caine, Feral Heart, Cathari, Night, and Metamorphosis)

Level 2

  • You know the names all the major paths of enlightenment followed by the Sabbat, and several of their common variations.
  • You know most of the tenets and hierarchy of sins for the major paths of enlightenment (1-3) as well as a very basic history of those paths.

Level 3

  • You know the names of the Minor Paths of Enlightenment in the Sabbat.
  • You know the full histories of the Major Paths of the Sabbat.
  • You know the full tenets and hierarchy of sins for the Major Paths of the sabbat.
  • You know how the Sabbat created the Paths of Enlightenment.

Level 4

  • You know the tenets and hierarchy of sins for the Minor Paths of Enlightenment.
  • You know the full histories of the Minor Paths of Enlightenment.
  • You know the names of the Heretical Paths of Enlightenment.

Level 5

  • You know the basic tenets, history, and sins of the Heretical Paths of Enlightenment (1-3).
  • You know of the Roads Cainites used to follow. You even know a basic history and belief structure for each.
  • You have heard the names of the Paths that used to come from the Roads of old, and have a basic idea what they are all about.
  • You know before the Anarch Revolt, Cainites who taught roads and preached them where known as Ashen Priests.

Lore: Noddist

Level 1

  • You know the names of the common books associated with Noddism (The Book of Nod, the Erciyes Fragment, and Revelations of the Dark Mother).
  • You know the story of Caine and Abel, and how Caine was cursed with Caine and became the first vampire.
  • You know that the clan founders are called the Antediluvians, because they predate the biblical flood.
  • You have heard of the concept of the Jyhad, the blood feud of political machinations in which elder vampires attempt to play their youngers off of one another for unknown ends.

Level 2

  • You have heard of the First City, known sometimes as Enoch, where Caine and his legendary childer first settled, and you have heard of the Second City, which was built after the First City was destroyed in the biblical deluge.
  • You have heard that the Antediluvians diablerized their progenitors (the Second Generation) and received their respective curses from Caine as a result, even if you aren't sure of what all those curses are.
  • You have heard that there is a myth that the endtimes will come for all vampires when the Antediluvians reawaken, and that this event shall be known as Gehenna.

Level 3

  • You know some of the variant details of the Caine mythos, and have either read or heard quoted fragments of the Book of Nod. You have also heard some words regarding the significance of Lilith as Caine's counterpart, and have heard that she was the being that taught Caine the Disciplines common to all vampires.
  • You have heard that the three members of the Second generation: Zillah the beautiful, Irad the Strong and Enoch (or sometimes Enki) the Wise.
  • You know that the Second City was founded in imitation of Enoch after the Deluge destroyed the First City, and that it was supposedly here that that the Antediluvians rose up in civil war and devoured their progenitors. You know that it was at this point that Caine supposedly abandoned his childer and laid his curses upon them.

Level 4

  • You are aware that, like the Tremere, the Giovanni are also ranked among one of the "new Clans" and that they were originally Embraced by a now defunct Clan known as the Cappadocians. You know that this parent Clan died out sometime during the Renaissance era after a protracted genocide was waged against them by family Giovanni (similar to that of the Salubri).
  • You know the traditional names of most of the Antediluvians, and are familiar with a good sampling of the stories regarding their interactions/relationships. (ex: Saulot, Set and Malkav were brothers, Arikel and Absimiliard were lovers, etc... You may need Clan-specific Lores for more details.)
  • You have heard several variants on the Gehenna prophecy and know some of the basic portents to watch for (ex: the Time of Thin Blood, the coming of the Red Sign, etc...)

Level 5

  • You can name every Antediluvian as well as several prominent Methuselahs... and you're beginning to have suspicions as to where a few of them might be slumbering.
  • You are intimately familiar with multiple Gehenna prophecies and cults. Frankly, you should be starting to get worried...
  • You have read and know the closest one will likely ever come to a full copy of the Book of Nod.

Lore: Cainite / Lore: Kindred

Level 1

  • You know the common strengths and weakness of the cainite form.
  • You know the theme of the common disciplines.
  • You understand clans and vampiric lineage.

Level 2

  • You have an understanding of how the beast and the mortal mind interact with each other.
  • You know that of the different types of torpor.
  • You understand the variations in the effect cainite blood has on kine.
  • You are aware of the various clan frailties.
  • You have some basic knowledge of bloodlines and variations of the curse. You know that some bloodlines manifest solely as cultural phenomena in cainitie society and other display unique properties of the blood.
  • You know the various effects of the common disciplines as practiced by anacilla.
  • You know the theme of the clan specialty disciplines.
  • You are aware of the effects an anacilla's generation has on their blood.

Level 3

  • You know how a cainite's relationship with their beast effect torpor.
  • You are aware of the the frailties suffered by various bloodlines.
  • You are able to identify several bloodlines and can hypothesize on their origin.
  • You know various effects of the common disciplines as practiced by elders.
  • You know the various effects of the clan specialty disciplines as practiced by anacilla.
  • You know the theme of various bloodline disciplines.
  • You know the various physiological difference thin-blooded cainites possess.
  • You understand the effects generation has on the potency of elders blood.

Level 4

  • You are aware of many bloodlines and are able to trace the origin of a few.
  • You know the effects of various bloodline disciplines.
  • You know various effects of the clan specialty disciplines as practiced by elders.
  • You know the various effects of some bloodline disciplines as practiced by anacilla.

Level 5

  • You can trace the origin of many bloodlines.
  • You know various effects of some bloodline disciplines as practiced by elders.
  • You know Dhampire are real and may have met one.

Lore: Sabbat

Level 1

  • You know that the Sabbat claims that the purpose of the Sect is to battle against the machinations of elder Cainites, and that the Camarilla is supposedly the pawn of these ancients according to Sect propaganda.
  • You are aware that Clans Lasombra and Tzmisce make up the majority and ruling class of the Sabbat.
  • You are familiar with the fact the Sabbat functions in Packs.
  • You know what a Bishop is. (LotN [Rev]: 222; VtM [Rev]: 82-83)
  • You know the Sabbat practices bizarre rites they call Ritae.
  • You know that the Sabbat has a ritual that it is used to bind packs together through something that resembles the blood bond.
  • You are aware of the alternate and alien moralities known as the Paths of Enlightment, and you know that these are wildly espoused by the Priests of the Sabbat and widely practiced throughout the Sect as a means of overcoming the limitations that human morality might place on the Sect's goals.
  • You know that a pack’s leader is something called a Ductus.

Level 2

  • You have heard of the First Anarch Revolt, wherin neonates across Europe rose up and diablerized or killed their elders, and you know that both the Sabbat and Camarilla formed as a result of it.)
  • You know the Sabbat follow something called the Code of Milan.
  • You have heard some stories regarding the various Sabbat civil wars in North America, and have heard that a great deal of the Sect’s holdings in the United States were lost as a result.
  • You have heard of the various major political camps within the Sabbat, such as: the Status Quo; the Moderates; the Loyalists and the Ultra-Conservatives.
  • You know that the Sabbat ritae is divided into the auctoris ritae and the ignobilis ritae.
  • You have heard of the Inquisition, a group which scours the Sabbat for signs of heresy and infernalism, and of the Black Hand, an elite guild of assassins and spies.
  • You are aware that the Tremere antitribu used to be a part of the Sect, but all seemingly disappeared over a short span of time.
  • You have heard that Infernalism is rampant in the sabbat, as a cancer eating it within.
  • You know what Templars and Archbishops are.

Level 3

  • You are fairly cognizant of the details regarding the formation of the Sabbat and Camarilla, and have read the Treaty of Thorns.
  • You are intimately familiar both with the Code of Milan and its addenda (added in 1933), and realize that the document is somewhat controversial amongst the Loyalist faction.
  • You have a fairly good idea of the history of all three Civil Wars and connected events such as the Purchase Pact (the document which ended the Second Civil War, declaring a cessation to internal conflict within the Sect) and the formal recognition of Panders (which was the concession made to end the "Third Civil War" in NYC). You are aware that the Black Hand remained neutral during each conflict.
  • You know how to recognize a Sabbat Inquisition team, and are aware of their general modus operandi.
  • You know what a Priscus is and the Consistory.
  • You have heard of the Order of St. Blaise, The Children of the Dracon, and The Pander Movement
  • You have heard a few rumors regarding Sabbat specific Bloodlines, although you haven't heard much.
  • You are aware that the Tzimisce are said to have bred their ghouled serfs into bloodlines known as Revanants, mortals who show the aspects of ghouldom at birth and without ingesting vampiric blood.

Level 4

  • You know a detailed history of the First Anarch Revolt. You have heard multiple accounts regarding various pre-Sabbat antitribu patricides.
  • You can probably recite the code of Milan by heart at this point, and are familiar with many of the earlier variants of Sabbat manifesto it codified.
  • You have heard of the Cult of Lilith
  • You have heard of the Occult Underground
  • You know of the existence of the Blood Brothers, the Kiasyd, and the Harbingers of Skulls, although you don't have many details.

Level 5

  • You're thoroughly familiar with the known history of the First Anarch Revolt and of the Sabbat after its formation. You can rattle off a near continuous line of Regents, know a detailed history of all three Civil Wars, and can comment extensively on most of the major political shifts and events. You know exactly what was said at the Convention of Thorns and by who.
  • You know how the Consistory works, i.e. they appoint Cardinals, Regents, as well as decide sect policy.
  • You know who the nominal leaders of the Factions are.
  • You have heard of player made factions (see Faction packet)
  • You have heard strange stories regarding the events surrounding the fall of the Antedelluvians, how it happened, etc.
  • You know the specific details of the new Regent’s ascension.
  • You have heard tales of something terrible dwelling in Mexico City.
  • You have heard tales of something residing under New York City.
  • You know the origins of the Blood Brothers.
  • You have heard the story of the Harbingers of Skulls joining the Sabbat.
  • You are familiar with Elder Sabbat Disciplines. Ie the ones printed in Guide to the Sabbat.

Black Hand Knowledge / Lore: Black Hand

(See Guide to the Sabbat pg. 90-91)

Level 1

  • Are aware that the Black Hand exists as a sect within a Sect, though all members are loyal to the Sabbat.
  • The Black Hand is made up from a variety of Clans though Gangrel and Assamite antitribu make up a significant demographic.
  • Know that the Black Hand is largely a military organization at the disposal of the Sabbat’s leadership.
  • The Hand operates on a small scale, electing to use focused units or packs rather than uniting as a whole. Few, if any, can recall a time when the Hand acted as a single entity.
  • Know that many credit the Black Hand with the cohesion of the Sect as a whole.
  • Are aware of a ‘mark’ with which many members of the Hand are branded.

Level 2

  • Have seen (or possess) the mystical crescent moon sigil placed upon the right palm of Black Hand members. Are aware that the sigil’s presence indicates that its bearer must always heed the Hand’s call. The Brand can never be removed.
  • Are aware that membership in the Hand lasts until final death.
  • Have been educated in a handful of the Hand’s ciphers or message encoding procedures. (Black Hand Only)
  • Know about or have personally undertaken the Pilgrimage. (Black Hand Only)
  • You know that the Black Hand refers to itself as Caine’s Chosen and have a general idea of why.
  • You know that the Black hand has a history that is rumored to predate both the camarilla and the Sabbat.
  • Has heard of Caine’s Promise. (Black Hand Only)

Level 3

  • You have a familiarity with some of the Hand’s general tactics, even possessing a firm grasp on some of the more successful procedures and protocols. (Black Hand Only)
  • Each region (or large area) possesses an Emissary. This figure acts as the ‘public face’ of the Hand in a given area. You are aware of one or two Region’s Emissaries.
  • Know one or two of the Seraphim as well as general details of their reputations.
  • Are familiar with your Watch Commander and may have served under him/her in missions. (Black Hand Only)
  • Have the means and understanding to contact your peers and superiors directly…without being sent on missions to Antarctica. (Black Hand Only)
  • Understand the various roles and niches present within the Hand (Removers, Assassins, Rookies, etc.). (Black Hand Only)
  • Have participated in one or more kamut and know the procedures for their formation (as well as the reasons). (Black Hand Only)
  • Know of rumors of columns, though you have not ever encountered such a thing. (Black Hand Only)
  • Is adept at the training/recruitment methods potential cadets are subjected to (and may have performed such duties, yourself). (Black Hand Only)
  • Knows that you are the heir of Caine’s Promise and understands many interpretations of it’s meanings. (Black Hand Only)

Level 4 (Black Hand Only)

  • Know all the Seraphim and have a reasonable understanding of their specialties and reputations.
  • Are aware of the few existing Columns within your Region as well as their missions.
  • Have significant rank and know the ins and outs of how promotions/demotions are earned (properly).
  • If you don’t practice them, you know of the Black Hand Ritae.
  • There are Cainite’s who’s blood is viewed as not acceptable for service within the Black Hand (bloodlines, etc) but some within the Black Hand. You are aware of them as well as the reasons they are generally not found among Caine’s Chosen.

Level 5 (Black Hand Only)

  • Knows the identity and general specialties of all members of the Hand.
  • Has been active and present as an integral member of the Hand for many years, potentially since the Hand’s inception.
  • Is aware of the full history and motivations of the Black Hand in all operations.
  • Sees signs of Caine’s return in all aspects of existence and know how you are ordained by the Father to prepare for it.
  • You know the History of the Lost Tribe and that of Dastur Anosh

Lore: Ba'Hari

Level 1

  • You have heard of Lillith and her love for the myserious founder of the Cainite race.
  • There is a group of individuals, predominantly made up of women who study the teaching of the Dark Mother.

Level 2

  • Baharists are followers of a path called the path of Lillith which espouses enlightenment through suffering.
  • You are familiar with the first 3 levels of Path of Lillith.
  • Some time ago, The Path of Lillith was openly practiced within the Sabbat and flourished. Members of the path were commonly priests and Bishops and had a hand of many of the Sect's triumphs.

Level 3

  • You know the names of various leaders within the cult.
  • You have read Revelations of the Dark Mother and have memorized many of it's entries.
  • You know the full tenants and hierarchy of sins for the varients of the path of Lillith.

Level 4

  • You know secrets of Lillith's Garden and legends pertaining to her unusual connection to mirrors.
  • You know of leaders of the Cult worldwide and some of the regions they reside in.
  • You have heard of the Lamia and their service to a mysterious bloodline of Necromancers.

Level 5

  • You know that which there is to know of Lillith and have developed numerous theories regarding the legendary figure.
  • You have learned the secrets of Lillith's garden and the strange creatures who reside within it. It is nearly impossible to have this level of the lore and not be in service to Lillith.
  • Ahi Hay Lilitu

Lore: Tal'Mahe'Ra

Level 1

  • Are aware that the Black Hand existed within all Sects, though all members were loyal to the Aralu.
  • The Black Hand is made up from a variety of Clans though Gangrel and Assamite antitribu make up a significant demographic.
  • Know that the Black Hand is largely a military organization at the disposal of the Aralu.
  • The Hand operates on a small scale, electing to use focused units or packs rather than uniting as a whole. Few, if any, can recall a time when the Hand acted as a single entity.
  • Know that many credit the Black Hand with the cohesion of the Sect as a whole.
  • Are aware of a ‘mark’ with which many members of the Hand are branded.

Level 2

  • Have seen (or possess) the mystical crescent moon sigil placed upon the left palm of Black Hand members. Are aware that the sigil’s presence indicates that its bearer must always heed the Hand’s call. The Brand can never be removed.

  • You know that the Black hand has a history that is rumored to predate both the camarilla and the Sabbat.
  • You are familiar with the Marijava Revenant line and Chatterlings.
  • Have heard of the Del'Roh.
  • You know that the Tal'Mahe'Ra is no more. The sect shattered and broke shortly after the week of nightmares. All that remains now is remnants of the sect.

Level 3

  • You have a familiarity with some of the Hand’s general tactics, even possessing a firm grasp on some of the more successful procedures and protocols.
  • You know that the false Hand was thoroughly infiltrated by Izhim Ur Baal, who used the False hand to further the goals of the True Hand they were named after.
  • Know one or two of the Seraphim as well as general details of their reputations.
  • Are familiar with the various roles within the True Hand and how they differentiate from their lesser Black Hand.
  • Have participated in one or more kamut and know the procedures for their formation (as well as the reasons).
  • Know of rumors of columns.
  • Is adept at the training/recruitment methods potential cadets are subjected to (and may have performed such duties, yourself).
  • You are familiar with the True Brujah and their membership with the True Black Hand.


Level 4

  • Know all the Seraphim and have a reasonable understanding of their specialties and reputations.
  • Are aware of the few existing Columns within your Region as well as their missions.
  • Have significant rank and know the ins and outs of how promotions/demotions are earned (properly).
  • If you don’t practice them, you know of the True Black beliefs regarding the Antideluvians and why the Week of Nightmares shattered their beliefs.
  • There are Cainite’s who’s blood is viewed as not acceptable for service within the Black Hand. You are aware of them as well as the reasons they are generally not found among Caine’s Chosen.

Level 5

  • Knows the identity and general specialties of all members of the Hand.
  • Know who has been active and present as an integral member of the Hand for many years, potentially since the Hand’s inception.
  • Is aware of the full history and motivations of the Black Hand in all operations.
  • Sees signs of Caine’s return in all aspects of existence and know how you are ordained by the Father to prepare for it.
  • You know where Izhim Ur Baal is.
  • You know about the Shadow Crusade

Lore: Clan

  • See Guide to the Camarilla pg. 70-71


Rituals

It is recommended that the Rituals ability become the ability retest for all Ritae challenges and no longer the method that determines how many rituals a priest gets. Instead, it is recommended that the Rituals background from the Table Top Guide to the Sabbat is used instead for that purpose.

Panhandling

  • See Player's Guide to the Sabbat page 102

Dreaming

  • This ability allows you to interrupt and alter your dreams. This is largely left to the Storyteller to decide what comes of it. Otherwise see Player's Guide to the Sabbat page 101 for more information.

Crafts: Body Crafts

  • This is the ability for all Vicissitude and body modification tests. See Laws of the Night Revised for more information on the Crafts ability.

Fire Eating

  • For every level of this ability mastered reduce all damage received from eating fire by 1 after a successful test with the ability. Otherwise see Player's Guide to the Sabbat page 102-103 for more information.

Snake Charming

  • See Player's Guide to the Sabbat page 103

Tightrope Walking

  • See Player's Guide to the Sabbat page 104
