Rituals: This ability is used to all challenges to retest use of Ritae only. It does not grants levels of Ritae itself.

Crafts Crafts not listed here are assumed to use a comparable system - specifics should be clarified with Staff before anything is finalized.

  • Each level of Crafts takes 2 weeks to be applied - for example, a Crafts 3 item would take 6 weeks to be completed.
  • Each level of Crafts requires a challenge, retest applicable Crafts Ability.
    • Any failed challenges may be retried with the Repair Ability, retest Repair.
    • You may not retry more challenges on a given item than your levels of Repair.

Example: A PC attempts to create a Crafts 5 sword and loses 2 of the 5 challenges. They have Repair 2, thus allowing a second attempt on both lost challenges. One of those is won, resulting in a Crafts 4 sword at the conclusion of 10 weeks.

  • Ammunition Crafting: Ammunition crafting only takes 2 weeks to complete, regardless of craft level being used.

Specialization If you have an applicable spec for the type of item you are creating you may do one of the following: Add 50% more to the end total of ammo created, Cut your crafting time in half.
  • Armor Crafting: Your base item will be taken directly from the appropriate book. Then your crafting ability will be applied to make any modifications to the item.

Linguistics: is handled as in Laws of the East, which states “This version...supersedes the rules for Linguistics given in all previous Mind’s Eye Theatre games” and, as such, the Linguistics ability is handled as follows:

Demolitions: In the Avenger Creed book, mechanics are given for destroying a building. The design was loosely based on the regular combat system and was designed to allow some complexity to the largely untouched aspect of the storytelling system. Remember that overt instances should likely be featured in chronicle reports. Important notes to the system are as follows:

  • Buildings get “Health Levels”. These health levels represent how much stress a building can take before it collapses.
    • These are not on a human scale. A building can only suffer damage via the forces described below (big explosions, fire or repeated heavy impact). At storyteller discretion, some supernatural abilities such as Puissance or Might of Thor can deal single levels of damage to the structure of a building.
  • Buildings do not soak damage. There are simply sources of damage that can harm their structural integrity and sources that cannot.
  • Some buildings have more than 10 health levels while others may have fewer.
  • Engage in a static Mental Challenge, retesting with Demolitions or Construction, against a difficulty set by the storyteller based on the amount of time the character has had to prepare for the strike.
    • The difficulty is six if the character had the day to plan it out. The difficulty can rise as high as eight or even higher if the character is under duress.
      • If the character fails the challenge, two Simples Challenges are made.
        • If the character fails both, the challenge is considered a botch and something goes wrong. This can mean anything from the building coming down on the character, to equipment breaking down and no longer functioning.
      • Damage to the structure that is dealt by the Demolition/Construction action is equal to the unspent Ability used, divided by two and rounded up.
        • You then add a damage modifier based on the equipment being used.
        • An appropriate Spec increases this damage by one.

Torture: Like it or not, those who know how to apply the correct pressures -physically or psychologically-and have no qualms about doing so can extract just about anything they want from a subject, given enough time to wear them down. A torturer must select what method she will use to get information, either physical punishment or psychological tactics depending on what method she chooses, she must make either a Physical or Mental Challenge against the target’s Willpower, as she sees fit. Each Torture session generally requires at least l0 minutes to perform. At the end of this time, and once the appropriate test is made-if successful, the subject loses a temporary Willpower Trait and offers up a piece or two of information (he may suffer some other bashing or even lethal damage as well, depending on the methods used by the torturer).Once all of his Willpower Traits are gone, the subject breaks and answers whatever questions the torturer requires as honestlyandcompletelyaspib1e.This process differentiates this Ability from mere manhandling or threats issued without this Ability- if a subject can be broken this way, the torturer can be assured that the information they’re getting is true so far as the subject is aware.

Vamp: You may spend 1 Level of this Ability to gain 1 Blood Trait

Dreaming: You may spend 1 level of this ability to alter a dream you find yourself in; in any way you can imagine.

Fire Eating: You may spend 1 level of the ability to reduce 1 level of Damage from eating fire.

Snake Charming: You may spend 1 level of this ability to cause a snake to not attack or bite you.

Tightrope Walking: You may Spend 1 level of this ability to ignore any penalties due to loss of balance.

Kibatsumejutsu: For every two levels of Kibatsumejutsu beyond the first that character possesses (round up), he inflicts an extra level of damage when attacking with that skill. Thus a character attacking with five levels of Kibatsumejutsu inflicts three additional level of damage when attacking using this ability, for a brutal total of four health levels of damage with a single strike. This ability may only used (and spent for retests) in brawling attacks.

Computers Hacking: Some character in the World of Darkness view themselves as expert computer hackers. It is important to remember that the World of Darkness is not the real world, but a fantasy world. Thus this system is designed to reflect drama and story and not real world accuracy. For a character to Hack into any electronic device they will need access first to the device in question. This most often means they physically need access to the device. Once the character has access to the device they may attempt to hack the device. This is done by performing a Static Mental challenge retested with Computers. The difficulty of these challenges varies depending on the level of security on the device. The more security that is on a device the more risks and challenges a character will face. A storyteller first assigns an appropriate security level to the device and then uses the system below to determine the difficulty and means to hack an electronic device.

  • Level 1 Security

This level of cybersecurity is the equivalent of someone buying a brand new computer from a big box store. Nothing additional has been set up and it has the base level of protections; if they even remember to install the right software.

    • Difficulty: 8
    • Forced Retests: None
    • Success: Complete Access to all files and systems
    • Failure: No detriment beyond being unable to get into the system.
  • Level 2 Security

This level of cybersecurity is the equivalent of someone who has done the basics of most normal software protections. They will have set up authentication systems and some redundant checks on the system.

    • Difficulty: 12
    • Forced Retests: 1
    • Success: Complete Access to all files and systems
    • Failure: No detriment beyond being unable to get into the system.
  • Level 3 Security

This level of cybersecurity is the equivalent of most businesses and their employees. It will often only be accessible through a VPN and other security measures, some of which costs thousands of dollars.

    • Difficulty: 20
    • Forced Retests: 2
    • Success: Complete Access to that computer’s files and systems. To navigate the network once in are in you will have to perform an additional static challenge as above for level 3 security for every file or system you wish to access off the network itself.
    • Failure: If you fail any challenge in the process of a level 3 Security system you must throw 2 simple tests. If you lose both, you are caught and cannot erase that you were in the system.
  • Level 4 Security

This level of cybersecurity is the best money can buy and used by corporate executives. Most hackers cannot even hope to access these systems.

    • Difficulty: 25
    • Forced Retests: 3
    • Success: You gain initial access to the system. For every piece of information you wish to access or modify from this point forward; you must an additional static challenge as above for level 4 security
    • Failure: If you fail any challenge in the process of a level 4 Security system you must throw 1 simple test. If you lose, you are caught and cannot erase that you were in the system.
  • Level 5 Security

This level of cybersecurity is held by government agencies, the military and not available to the consumer market.

    • Difficulty: 32
    • Forced Retests: 4
    • Success: You gain initial access to the system. For every piece of information you wish to access or modify from this point forward; you must an additional static challenge as above for level 5 security
    • Failure: If you fail any challenge in the process of a level 5 Security system you are caught and cannot erase that you were in the system.
